Girls like you

On May 30th 2018, Maroon 5 released “Girls Like You” featuring Cardi B and showcases inspirational women from start to finish. This single shows frontman, Adam Levine, providing the vocals to the song and a camera circles around him. In addition, it shows female stars by his side and which change when it completes a circle, revealing a new face with each turn. When you watch the music video, the chances are you will recognize some of the familiar faces. The video opens with singer Camilla Cabello, comedian Phoebe Robinson, two-time Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman, standup comedian Sarah Silverman, followed by the the high-flying princess of the Amazons known as Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot, celebrity YouTuber Lilly Singh, Entrepreneur Amani Al-Khatahtbeh and the impressive list continues.

Amal Clooney, a celebrity by marriage and popularly known for her style and fashion is actually a human rights lawyer by profession. She appeared on the front of Vogue’s, May 2018 issue. A look at her and you will realize that she is a serious woman who uses style to contradict the stereotypes associated with the brainy, righteous realm of human rights work. A woman who wears Lanvin and Giambattista Valli understands the impact of a high-fashion image. In her case, fashion and style are in service to substance. They don’t overshadow her accomplishments or distract from them. Fashion makes them stand out.

Vogue has also featured Malala Yousafzai, the human rights and education campaigner from Pakistan. She was shot in the head by the Taliban on her way home from school in 2012, when she was just 15, for daring to flout the group’s ban on female education. Since then, she has been a vocal advocate of girls gaining the same access to learning as boys across the world. In 2014, she became the youngest person ever to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

So what do most of these women have in common? For starters, they are famous and have achieved or pioneered in many ways. Vogue which has always been a fashion and style oriented magazine, is today talking about women with substance and not just about the style statements. Today women are redefining, how we look at fashion and breaking the stereotypical image of it.

These women inspires the world everyday to live a life without limits and their message is brilliantly electric.
